Description: a kind of double bass; two strings; trapezoidal body, upper part with steep sides; top plate flat with C-holes, back plate slightly convex; straight ribs; reinforcing batten on the back plate inside; neck without fingerboard; pegbox attached form the top through a bar with three loose metal circles of different diameter; tailpiece flat; a reconstructed instrument

Performance practice: in north Greater Poland (the area of Szamotuły), in Pałuki, and Kujawy a component of folk bands (along with the violin and the clarinet); played without shortening the strings and "the other way round", i.e. the musician holds a motionless bow and shifts the instrument to the sides; maryna is now used in the folk revival
